Ostersunds FK’s Alhaji Gero rates just concluded season his best ever
Former Kaduna United forward Alhaji Gero has hailed the just concluded season in Sweden as his best ever after Ostersunds FK finished fifth and are in line to qualify for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Europa League.
Earlier on Sunday which was the final day of the season, Ostersunds held hosts Jonkopings Sodra to a goalless draw to improve on their previous finish by placing fifth with 50 points from 30 matches.
Alhaji Gero’s club welcome Zorya of Ukraine on November 23 in a decisive Europa League group game as a home win will see them qualify to the knockout stage of the competition.
“This has been my best-ever season, it has been a beautiful dream for us all because a year ago nobody believed we could do this,”
“We got the self-belief and we worked very hard.
“The manager gave us the courage and there was no bad energy in the team, we are truly one big, happy family.”
He said the personal highlight of his season have been the Europa League games against Turkish giants Galatasaray, Hertha Berlin as well as against Athletic Bilbao, where he was picked as Man of the Match.
“They were all great games and we hope to continue to improve as we go as far as possible in the Europa League,” vowed the big striker, who has scored three goals in the Europa League.
Top striker Alhaji Gero has played on both wings as well as in midfield as Ostersunds continue to shame the form books in Europe.
“We hope to beat Zorya with the help of our fans so that we go to Hertha Berlin in our final group game next month without any pressure.”
