Obinna Nsofor wants a place in Super Eagles World Cup squad
Obinna Nsofor is hoping to get another chance to represent Super Eagles again, this time at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The former Inter Milan striker who is currently with the PSL side Cape Town City is hoping to get a recall into the Super Eagles set up after his last appearance for Nigeria came in a goalless international friendly against Mexico in March 2014.
“It wouldn’t be a bad idea,” he said.
“But on a personal front, I think I’ve done everything I could do for my country. Obviously, yes, it depends on my performances as well, and if I get an opportunity from now until the end of the season to go back and play for my country, it’s a plus.
“But my priority is totally focused on Cape Town City, to be able to achieve the objectives the team has set for itself.”
“The league here is not bad,” he says. “We have two or three players from the league here that are currently playing with the national team. And hopefully, if I get a chance [with Nigeria], it’ll be a big plus for me.”
The well-travelled Nigerian, who has turned out for clubs in Italy, Germany, England and Russia, made his Super Eagles debut in 2006, and has since notched up 46 caps for his nation, scoring 11 goals.
Obinna is currently nursing a hamstring injury picked up in his side’s 1-0 Absa Premiership victory over Free State Stars at the start of the month.
