Ola Aina: I am fulfilled to have snubbed England for Nigeria
Hull City’s on-loan Chelsea defender Ola Aina has expressed his delight having a made his full debut for Nigeria in the dead rubber world cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine which ended in a 1-1 draw.
“Another happy moment for me having a full 90 minute for Nigeria it was a good game, tough game as well.”
Aina who acquitted himself in the game nicely showed he has a decent close control and got the Riayd Mahrez substituted after he could not get a sniff at the Super Eagles goal.
“Algeria was a good side playing against Riayd Mahrez for most of the game, everyone knows he is a good player.”
John Ogu fired in a shot from the midfield beyond Algeria’s goalkeeper to put Nigeria in front in the 62nd minute.
“I was happy for the team also , we did very well, we should have won the game instead of the draw and we worked very hard.”
The referee gave a Algeria a penalty after Shehu Abdullahi was adjudged to have fell Yacine Brahimi in the box, the Porto man stepped up and converted the spot-kick which resulted in the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
“I want to move on now and am happy the team went unbeaten in the qualifiers which is a good achievement ahead of the world cup.”
Nigeria stretched their FIFA World Cup qualifying unbeaten record to 35 matches by avoiding defeat in Algeria.
The Super Eagles would know their opponents when the FIFA World Cup draw holds on December 1.
