EXCLUSIVE: Afeez Aremu revels in perfect debut, vows to force his way into Gernot Rohr’s World Cup plans
IK Start midfielder Afeez Aremu is happy with his dream start in Norway and he has stated that his eyes are on the ultimate prize, representing Nigeria at 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The former Akwa United midfielder who recently joined the newly-promoted Norwegian side Ik Start on a three-year- deal from Ghanaian Club Inter Allies told Sportlineng.com exclusively from his base in Norway that he has what it takes to compete with Mikel Obi and co for a place in Super Eagles midfield.
Afeez Aremu who was a key member of the CHAN Eagles before becoming ineligible due to his move away from Nigerian League said the likes of Mikel Obi, Wilfred Ndid do not have three legs and he believes he can make the cut.
“I believe I can force my way into Gernot Rohr’s plan for the 2018 World Cup in Russia because people over there don’t have 3 legs.
“I believe in my ability and by the grace of God, my performances here in Norway will speak for me. I trained with the Super Eagles while they were preparing for the World Cup qualifier clash against Zambia in Uyo and with what I saw I can roll with them.
“I am available to represent my country anytime any day, it will be a great honour to be part of the squad but for now I want to focus on doing a great job here in Norway with IK Start.”
Afeez Aremu who scored for his new club in their 4-1 victory against Tromso at the Sparebanken Sør Arena in their first league game of the season on Sunday reveled in his dream start while insisting it is just a tip of the iceberg.
“I am so happy to score my first goal in my first home and league game for my team, it was a great game for me and my teammates.
“I set the bar high for my self this season, the goal and beautiful display is just a tip of the iceberg, there is more to come because I strongly believe in abilities.
“I have the quality to be one of the best midfield in Norwegian this season and nothing is impossible in this life, with God by my side I will achieve great things this year.”
Before leaving Nigeria for Ghana, Afeez Aremu played for top Nigeria Professional Football League top clubs like; Sunshine Stars, Rivers United and Akwa United.
