CW: D’Tigers to play Scotland for a place in semis despite third loss
Nigeria’s men basketball team will face Scotland in the Men’s Qualifying Final for a place in the semifinal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia.
Despite their 97 – 55 loss to Australia in their third and final game of the group, they have been given a lifeline for a place on the podium with a clash against Scotland who topped group A.
Again, Ikechechukwu Diogu was the best player for D’Tigers on the court as made yet another double-figure point against the hosts on Monday.
He posted 19 points and 6 rebounds in the blow away that saw Nigeria trailed from the 1st-4th quarters. Australia won 23-17, 25-10, 28-14 and 21-14 in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters to accrue a total of 97 points against Nigeria’s 55 points.
Nigeria must improve on their poor 36% shooting from field goal if they must stand a chance against Scotland who are shooting averaging above 50% the field goals are better from the three points.
Nigeria and Scotland will play for a place in the semifinal at Cairns Convention Centre tomorrow by 1 pm.
