Hapoel Beer Sheva 2 APOEL Nicosia 2: Ogu, Nwakaeme to the rescue for Isreali champions
Super Eagles players, Anthony Nwakaeme and John Ogu were on target for Hapoel Beer Sheva as the Isreali champions rallied from two goals down to play a draw at the Turner Stadium Be’er Sheva in Thursday’Europa League third round qualifying match against APOEL Nicosia.
After failing to make it to the next round in the UEFA Champions League qualification the Isreali champions dropped to the Europa League qualifeirs against a strong Cyprus side.
The visitors took the lead through Nuno Morais as early as the 13th minutes, and Dellatorre increased Apoel Nicosia tally to 2 in the 28th minutes.
But Nigerian duo of John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme who started in the midfield, Ogu in his usual position and Nwakaeme usually a striker but played as the left winger on the day had other plans.
The Nigerians linked up to reduce the deficit in the 42nd minutes with Nwakaeme teeing up his compatriot for their first goal. At half time the visitors were leading by a goal but the host finally came to the party.
Anthony Nwakaeme in the 63rd minutes scored from a pass from Bitton to ensure Hapoel Beer Sheva picked up a point and aboid degeat going into the second leg in Cyprus next week.
John Ogu who was on target in his sides last UEFA Champions League qualification game ensured he continued his goal scoring form.
