The Immortal Messi?

Presently he is regarded by many as the greatest of all time, while others are of the opinion he needs to win trophies with the national team before he will attain the immortality status.

The Copa America is here and the Five times world footballer of the year can take a big step to attaining immortality if he wins the trophy with Argentina.

Having previously won almost everything there is at the aged group competition with Argentina, the Barcelona Superstar will be looking to add Copa America title to his very big title collections.

He has been the brain behind Barcelona dominance in the last 9 years but that can’t be said of the Argentina national team has his performances with the La Albiceleste has been out of sorts and nothing compared to Barcelona stats.

He has played in 3 Copa America without any success the closest was last edition in Chile where they came very close to winning the title but lost to the host nation in the final on penalty shootout.

His first Copa was in 2007, he played 6 games, scored 2 goals and assisted one of their goals in the tournament, they lost 3-0 to Brazil in the final but Messi didn’t play a part in the game.

His 2nd was in 2011 when Argentina hosted the competition, he played 4 games failed to find the back of the net but assisted 3 of their goals. Argentina lost by penalty shootout to Uruguay in the quarterfinals, he was booed in the game by his own fans.

Last year was touted to be their year he played a total of 6 games, scored a goal and assisted 3 of their goals but was not good enough to help Argentina end their trophy draught that began in 1993.

The above stats are obviously not good enough for the little magician, maybe that explains why the Argentines complained about his performances in the national team’s colour and call that he gives more.

If he is able to win a title with the national team maybe those who doesn’t see him as immortal will have no choice than to give him the credit he deserves.

Will Messi help end Argentina’s trophy drought, will he make things happen this time around? Only time will tell.

Argentina start this years Copa America campaign the way they ended the last one as they will play Chile on June 7th.

He won’t win, he can’t be immortal.
